If you are looking for a hot spring resort look no further than Noboribetsu. Hokkaido`s most famous hot spring village offering eleven different kinds of spring water was recently voted “the best hot spring spa in Japan” by one of Japan`s largest tourist magazines.
A must see for all visitors to Noboribetsu is the famous Jigokudani (Hell Valley). Located only a few minutes walk from the spa area Jigokudani which was originally the mouth of a volcano almost 10,000 years ago lets off clouds of steam, volcanic gas and hot water giving the area its distinctive smell of sulphur.
The oldest hotel in the resort is the Daiichi Takimotokan. The original hotel established in 1858 now boasts more than 6 modern buildings that house some of the areas finest baths. There are over 7 kinds of hot springs in this facility alone ranging from indoor and outdoor baths, pools, waterfalls and Jacuzzis.
Apart from the hot springs Noboribetsu is also an ideal location to walk around an enjoy the souvenier shops and many popular restaurants.
